Jan. 2015-Dec. 2015: Makeup No Buy & Hitting Pan

IMG_1390

For those of you that don’t know, in the makeup world, the saying “hitting pan” means that a makeup lover has used so much of a makeup product (eye shadows, powders, blushes, etc.) that they can literally see the pan at the bottom. The powder, for instance, has been used so much that the hole allows you to see the pan in which that powder is held. Does that makes sense? Now that we have that out of the way…

I am thinking about doing a Makeup No Buy or Project No Buy, whatever you would like to call it… I am doing it. I figure that when I do start to hit pan on some of my makeup, that it encourages me to finish it up. Kind of like, you’ve come this far, so just keep going. I will give myself until the Holiday Sephora sale around December. I do not think I could do this for a whole year (since I started in January 2015.)

The only issue I see with doing this makeup no buy, is that I will have less IG haul pictures of makeup and I won’t have the newest makeup trends. The upside to doing this — my wallet will be happier. I will also feel like I am not wasting the money that I spent on the products that I did use up. I get to see what I really love from my stash. I kind of want to be minimalistic when it comes to my makeup collection. Just look at my Instagram. I have seven or eight concealers. Who needs that many anyway? But then my makeup lover side is telling me all the ways I could use the seven or eight concealers and how they all do different things — under eye concealer, concealer for blemishes, concealer for highlighting, concealer to cancel out redness, concealer to cancel out dark under eye circles, etc. Either way, I don’t need eight, do I?

You see how I am struggling with just talking about this makeup no buy? I think I can do it because I have a lot of discipline. I just can’t look at the upcoming Sephora sale in a couple of months. Wish me luck!

  1. Good luck! I feel like I need to do a no buy for nail polish or they just need to ban me from Essie displays for the next year all together. LOL!!!!!!!

  2. Wow, I’ve never seen an eyeshadow end up completely so that the back of the pan is visible…probably because I often change product according to the mood of the day. 😀 😀 😀

  5. I haven’t hit the pan yet and the only ones I encounter are empties. There is like a seasonal thing for me. One month i am into liners, and another month i may be into toners, etc. I dont apply makeup everyday so that explains but I do hope to be able to hit the pan with my bareminerals ready foundation which i love so much! 😍
