NEW Tag: The No Buy / Lo Buy Tag!

NoBuyLoBuytag

The idea to create this Tag came out of a discussion with StyledWithJoy in the comments section of one of my posts a couple of weeks ago.  We’re both on a No Buy for 2015, and we decided we needed a place to commiserate.  If you’re on a No Buy or a Lo Buy, please join us in answering these co-authored tag questions – it’s cathartic!

StashMatters

1. When did you start your No Buy / Lo Buy? How long is your No Buy / Lo Buy going to last?
2. Why did you decide to go on a No Buy / Lo Buy?
3. Have you ever attempted a No Buy / Lo Buy before? If so, how did it go?
4. What do you hope to achieve with your No Buy / Lo Buy?
5. What product(s) have you hit pan on since starting the Makeup No Buy?
6. Do you have more empties because of it? What product do you miss the most?
7. Do you think you can survive the ban from makeup?
8. What is the one product you envy right now but can’t get? For eyes? For lips? And for face?
9. Have you cheated and bought something already?
10. After your No Buy / Lo Buy, are you planning a big haul? What are you going to buy?

My answers:

1. When did you start your No Buy / Lo Buy? How long is your No Buy / Lo Buy going to last?
My Makeup No Buy is from January 2015 – December 2015, you know, so I don’t miss out on the big Sephora Sale! I don’t think I could do the whole year.

2. Why did you decide to go on a No Buy / Lo Buy?
My makeup collection grew a lot and I was finally overwhelmed. I actually wanted to use things up and throw them into empties posts and hit pan on eye shadows and powders.

3. Have you ever attempted a No Buy / Lo Buy before? If so, how did it go?
Never, this is my first time.

4. What do you hope to achieve with your No Buy / Lo Buy?
Besides empties and hitting pan, just learning to shop my stash and discover what I really love from my collection.

5. What product(s) have you hit pan on since starting the Makeup No Buy?
Does moisturizer count? It’s a huge tub of Clinique Moisture Surge and I finally see part of the bottom. And a bunch of lip balms (lip balm junkie)

6. Do you have more empties because of it? What product do you miss the most?
Yes, most definitely. I thought that I would have no empties this month and I was wrong. I have five already, so I look forward to writing an empties post this month! I miss the Jo Malone Body Creme. It smells way too good. Luckily, I still have the fragrance and am currently using the body wash. I just can’t get enough of that scent!

7. Do you think you can survive the ban from makeup?
Yes, although I get a lot of comments that I can’t. Or that I am crazy for going on a makeup no buy. You know who you are — beauty bloggers that leave me funny comments!

8. What is the one product you envy right now but can’t get? For eyes? For lips? And for face?
Eyes – Laura Mercier Modernist Palettes, Makeup Geek Eyeshadows,
Lips – Christian Dior Creme de Rose Lip balm,
Face – I want to try out the new Laura Mercier foundation

If you’re interested, I update this Makeup Wishlist.

9. Have you cheated and bought something already?
Nope, I’m being really good. Doesn’t hurt to browse though!

10. After your No Buy / Lo Buy, are you planning a big haul? What are you going to buy?
I wouldn’t say a big haul. But it depends on what’s good and on sale in December. I will probably get half of the stuff listed in my Makeup Wishlist!

Don’t be shy. If we didn’t tag you, it’s because we didn’t know you’re on a Makeup No/Lo Buy 🙂

Question: Do you consider it cheating on the makeup no buy if I buy lip balms?

  1. Yay, my partner in crime! Thanks for doing this tag with me and creating the questions!!!
That Jo Malone Body Creme looks divine! I would miss it too if I had it and used it up…
I definitely admire that you’ve been able to adhere to your No Buy – you’re a stronger person than me!
Hmm I’m not sure if it’s cheating if you buy lip balms – maybe you need to instate the 1 out, 1 in policy? Only purchase if you’re either purging a lip product (it expired or you don’t like it) OR if you finished up something.

    • Partners in crime for sure! Thank you for the encouraging words!

I wasn’t sure with lip balms because my theory is that it counts as skincare as long as it is not tinted? I have no idea. But I do like your idea of 1 out, 1 in. I think the only time I would really buy a new lip balm during my No Buy is when I run out of my stash of lip balms — so I really don’t cheat!

  3. Oh my! This is such an inspiration. I feel like I ‘need’ to buy something because I saw it on a blogger’s post but think to myself, do I really need it?!?! It’s so hard sometimes especially with new products always coming out. But it’s great sticking with what you currently have, trying to empty those products first and maybe, later buy more?!?! I should probably do the same thing.. Sigh but lol. 🙂

    • Aww thank you! At least you ask yourself that question before purchasing. New products are going to come out no matter what so you might as well wait for that product to go on sale. Save a little bit of money. I think after these 11 months, I will learn to buy what I really really want and really really need, rather than just saying OOOH PRETTY EYESHADOW PALETTE.. which is what I say in my head all the time (Marc Jacobs Lolita, I’m lookin at you!) Only do it if you really want to!

      • That’s true! Thank goodness I don’t own any eyeshadow palettes. Yup, none. Lol. I look at a few and see how pretty their packaging is, but I’m never really drawn to them and want to buy any. I never wear eyeshadow any way. 🙂

      • Yep! 😀 I’m shocked too, I guess? I feel that eyeshadow isn’t really for me.. I mean I have a wide eye lid to my brows and I wear glasses. I don’t feel comfortable wearing it really. Lol.

      • That means you have a lot of lid space. I hardly have any and my face is small to begin with lol There are makeup tutorials for glasses-wearers, but I understand how putting on eye makeup and then your glasses could be annoying all the time.

      • Yes, a lot of lid space! Even wearing mascara can get in the way 😦 but haha I love it and I still put it on! I’m trying to find a good mascara to keep my lashes curled at all times lol.

      • LOL Joy, I’ve never really been that big of a lippie person but I’ve been reading so many rave reviews of various lippie brands high-end and drugstore that my lippie collection has burgeoned quite a bit now! And it’s worse because one lippie isn’t too costly but when aggregated they could amount to a bit, not to mention the waste if I don’t get to them before they expire 😦

      • I hear ya! It all starts off with one pretty eyeshadow, for you it is lipstick. Then you think, hey, I like this formula, let’s get more shades. Then, your drugstore one is compared to a high end and it’s even better. Gotta get that one now.. THE ENDLESS CYCLE OF LIPPIES. But do you! Lol

        Like

      • Haha yeah and you think you can get more of the drugstore one cos they are cheaper… >< I think I need to at least finish up some products before I buy a new one so maybe that will be a better idea than a spending ban 😛

  4. This is awesome!! Sorry I know I’m one of the guilty ones to your #7 but at the same time I really admire you for getting through to March already! 😀 Maybe I should start small and impose a no buy ban for 6 months? hahaa

    • Thank you! And I don’t mind the comments, encouraging or not! It kind of helps me when it’s a comment saying you’re crazy! I think it helps because everyone makes it look like I am doing this amazing thing when really, I am just refraining from buying makeup for a few months 🙂 Only do a no/lo buy if you really really want to, otherwise you will just buy everything in sight because you’re telling yourself you can’t!

  9. After spending $135 at Priceline (Australian makeup store/drugstore), I put myself on a Makeup and Skincare ban until September 30, 2015 – but I’m now thinking to see if I can go to December 18, 2015 (my birthday :D). Thanks for doing this Tag, as overspending and stocking up on makeup is such a common problem. Luckily, I’m not a hoarder – I could probably list all the makeup items I have. It’ll be interesting to see what my bank balance is at the end of the year. Good luck to you on your No Buy, Lo Buy challenge. Keep us posted with how you’re going! xx

    • Thank you! It was fun to co-create that tag! I end up having a lot more empties. Haven’t hit pan on much since Jan. though. By the way, how come I don’t see your posts anymore? I thought you stopped posting and that’s why I didn’t see it in my Reader 😦
