Skincare Review: Olay Foaming Face Wash for Sensitive Skin

IMG_2168

I really love Cetaphil as my every day/night face wash. I tried a new face wash because my Cetaphil cleanser had run out. That cleanser is the Olay Foaming Face Wash for Sensitive skin. It is Oil-free (yes!), fragrance free (yes!), and soap free (yes!). Basically, this cleanser claimed the three things I look for in any face product.

The packaging is a thinly packaged tube where you can squeeze out the product. It looks like old packaging compared to their various skincare lines. I thought, why not try a foaming cleanser that does all the same things as my previous cleanser, so it will be a nice change for me.

Here are my thoughts…

I used it for a couple of days and ended up having to stop because it broke me out. I’m not completely sure if this is the culprit. (See: Coconut oil spray.) But while I was using it, I thought that the consistency of the gel to foam was not really cleaning my face but stripping it of its natural oils. It was strange because I thought it was drying, yet it had an oily texture when you put it on your skin as the foaming action happens.

I noticed that my skin looked bad and felt soft but tight on some areas of the clearer parts of my face. There were huge changes in the texture of my skin, and I did not appreciate it. There is no smell which was great.

Even if this was not the exact product that broke me out, I know for a fact that it did not improve my current complexion at the time. My face was never completely comfortable with this change. Therefore, I would not purchase because it probably broke me out or just didn’t help. I ended up going back to Cetaphil Cleanser and my face is almost back to normal. I will, however, try this cleanser when my face is at its oilest in the summer and update this post.

What is your skin type and favorite drugstore cleanser? I’d love to know as I am still looking for a good drugstore cleanser (besides Cetaphil.)

  1. I have sensitive skin too and it’s so annoying looking for products which aren’t going to break me out. It’s a shame this one didn’t work out for you. My personal favourite is the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish which is one of the only creamy cleansers which works perfectly for me! Great post! xxx

  2. Do you use this to remove makeup at night?
Unfortunately I don’t use drugstore cleansers so I don’t have an immediate recommendation but I will have a look.
I’m going to be doing a morning/ night skin routine soon, my makeup removal and face cleaning involves oil cleanser.

  3. I am pretty sure I tried this a couple of years ago (although it came in a pump bottle, not a squeeze tube), and I also found it drying! I mean, I have dry skin as it is, but a product marked for sensitive skin shouldn’t be extra drying. I haven’t really liked any drugstore cleansers that I have tried, unfortunately!

    • Yes! I don’t know why it is marketed for Sensitive skin. It did not feel gentle enough. I’m gonna try it in the summer when I’m most oily. My favorite is the Cetaphil cleanser. Have you tried that yet?

      • I feel that Cetaphil is not a makeup remover by any means. I only use it strictly just to cleanse my face. Once I realized that, it has been a great cleanser for that purpose. Good luck on your cleanser hunt!

      • Oh definitely! Even without makeup, it still feels like that to me, haha! Like if my face is even a little bit oily, it doesn’t do anything. I am happy that it works well for you, though. You might also try CeraVe’s cream cleanser (I’m not sure if it’s called that, but not the foaming one). I liked it better than Cetaphil but still found it too…lotion-y for a cleanser.

  4. Oooh sounds like this Cetaphil cleanser is definitely something to look into, for myself! Drugstore – I use Biore combo skin balancing cleanser. I think you know my skin type which is oily and combination. The cleanser I mentioned works well with my skin, it doesn’t dry out, feels fresh and clean, deep clean in my pores, oil-free, gel consistency which is good for my skin type. Sucks how it broke out your skin 😦
