Makeup Review: Physician’s Formula Jumbo Lash Mascara

IMG_2445

Let me preface this post by saying I’m not a huge fan of mascara. I know it makes the biggest difference opening up my eyes, but I find it tedious and messy. I’d much rather just do my regular makeup and then curl my lashes and be done. Let’s find out if this mascara helps!

The Packaging is a rather thick, green leaf-shaped bottle that can hardly stand on its own on top of my vanity. Its bulky packaging would be difficult to travel with or put in a makeup bag. The wand is huge, hence the “jumbo” in the title.  The Price is $9.95. I’m always shocked that the Physician’s Formula brand is one of the most expensive in comparison to other drugstore brands like Maybelline, Rimmel, etc. The Formula is wet. It says that it is 100% organic which usually makes no difference to me.

My thoughts on the product are not looking good. I’ll begin by saying that I work better with thinner wands due to lack of clumping. The mascara had absolutely no volume and it hardly lengthened my lashes. Every time I used this mascara, the product ended up getting all over my eyelid and/or under eye area. I always needed to clean up my look before leaving the house. It took extra time than I wanted to spend on doing my mascara.

Since the formula is wetter, it never just stuck to where it was supposed to. Luckily, I wasn’t already dressed — But I pulled the wand out, and the mascara would literally splatter bits of black mascara onto my arm. (Quite possibly the worst aspect of this product.)

I wore this on Easter, and I like to laugh a lot — Two hours into wearing this mascara, I laughed so hard I squinted, making the ultimate panda eyes. Unfortunately, the mascara transferred to below my lower lash line, and it was not pretty. Possibly due to lack of chemicals I didn’t know how much I needed in a mascara, this did not benefit me.The upside is that it really defined my lashes, making them even blacker than they already are. And this helped to open up my eyes really well.

Would I purchase? No, I do not think it is worth the money or the time that it takes to have and use this mascara.

  1. So glad you did this review because I was thinking of trying of it due to the rave review I’d heard elsewhere! Mascara smudging is my big issue so this one is a definite no!

  2. eww. This kind of sounds like the grossest mascara ever made lol. Thanx for the review. I’ll avoid doing a review of this one myself. On the upside, it does make your lashes look pretty but sounds like it doesn’t hold well.

  3. I got a value set from Physician’s Formula that was priced okay, but the individuals are on the pricier side of the drugstore end. The packaging does look unnecessarily chunky.

  4. I haven’t tried this one or really taken the time to look at it in person but the brush looks super big. I’m not really the sort to use like five different mascaras in the morning so I like one that will work for my top and bottom lashes.
Thanks for the honest review Joy!

  5. I haven’t heard of this brand before but it does sound so awful, especially having black mascara splatter out of the tube when you open it!? I would be so terribly annoyed with it. Before my knowledge of mascaras were decent, I had this one (forgot the brand) which had a thick wand and is very wet and was just a pain to use… Your mascara sounds almost the same as that so I feel you. Thick wands and tiny lashes do not go together! 😡

  6. Glad you reviewed this mascara on your blog as I was eyeing it in store! I will be looking for something else 😉 Do you have a favorite mascara? Or none at all? (It’s my favorite make-up item!)

    • I’m glad the post helped! 🙂 Fave mascara–Not at the moment. My favorite got discontinued. It was Rimmel Sexy Curves. May it RIP. If I ever have a fave, I’ll let you know. Have you tried The Falsies mascara? That was great for some drama on my lashes! Or Benefit They’re Real.
