Manicure Monday: Floral Polka Dot Nails

Tools Needed: Dotting tool

I’m so excited to show this manicure tutorial because I am so happy with the way it turned out. I was inspired by a dress that Allison Williams wore that I saw in a magazine. I saved it to my photos and stumbled upon it the other day and thought it’s the perfect time to do these nails. Let’s get started!

Here is a step-by-step tutorial on the Floral Polka Dot nails:

1. Start with a base coat to protect your natural nail bed.
2. Paint all the nails white until they are opaque.
3. Using this technique, paint black dots onto the entire nail bed. Once it’s completely dry, you’re ready to move on to the next step!

Time to paint your Flowers!

Paint any flowers you’d like!
*Here are some guidelines:

A. Red Rose – Dot on a color close to/lighter than red and then take a thin dotting tool or toothpick to outline the rose in “J” shapes using red.

B. Sunflower – Dot five yellow dots in a circle. Take a thin dotting tool, place it in the center of the dots and pull towards the middle of the flower to create the petals. Lastly, add a big brown dot in the middle.

C. Blue/Purple Flower – Same concept as B. Just use yellow as the center dot.

Important: On all the flowers, don’t forget to add green leaves. This is what makes all those little flowers come to life on the nail.

Have fun with it! There are no wrong flowers to paint. Even partial flowers look awesome.

I usually use dotticures as the main event and I’m happy that I have the option to use them as a background as well. It makes the manicure look a lot more interesting and adds layers to the design, making it more intricate.
