I went on a makeup no buy the time I started this blog, which was towards the end of January 2015. I decided to keep this no buy going until I reached December 2015, and here we are. Everyone who knows me, knows how much I love makeup; therefore, I was told I was crazy to even attempt this makeup ban. I’ve learned a couple of things along the way:
-Because I couldn’t buy makeup, I focused on skincare more. My skin is in much better shape than it was last year, and I’m really happy about it. I have oily-sensitive-acne-prone skin, so you can imagine how hard it is to maintain a clear complexion.
–I no longer need to go outside with makeup on. Before – I used to need makeup on my face to go anywhere, whether it was a big event, hanging out with friends or just a grocery store, which is a little ridiculous if you’re wearing makeup for the wrong reasons. I needed it for cover up of blemishes. If you love wearing makeup all the time, that’s fine too, but I found that because I focused on skincare, using less makeup or none at all was even better for healing my skin overall. It’s also a confidence booster knowing I can go outside without a drop of makeup on and still feel great.
–Sometimes the hype of the product is what gets you to buy it. I have had to shield my eyes from Sephora sales and the newest lines of makeup, but I realized that you really should only get what you really need or run out of. I am striving to be as minimal as possible when it comes to makeup purchases from now on, especially because I am trying to use up the products already in my stash; it’s an ongoing process.
With that said, I still love makeup!
What do you think of makeup no-buys? Are they crazy? Are they necessary?
I tried once.. it lasted 2 weeks lol 😦 I couldn’t do it! All the power to you for doing so!💪 congrats !😊

Congrats! I used to have to wear makeup all the time outside too. But, it’s so nice to leave the house without it on sometimes. And I agree, it definitely helps clear up your skin!

Thank you! My skin looks and feels so much better when I don’t wear makeup. But then again makeup is really fun to play with.

Great Joy! I’m sure I will never be able to do any no-buy (shame! lol) but I am trying to give some break for my skin sometimes. Especially on eyes, I don’t want any wrinkles yet :p

LOL no need to rush. It’s a hard thing to do, but I thought that at the end of my makeup no buy, that I would go crazy and buy ALL the MAKEUP! So far so good. Do you have a face primer that you recommend?

I so agree with #3. There’s SOOOO much hype! And we get caught up with all the marketing – especially from social media.
How has your first week off your No-Buy been? It seemed kind of low-key for you when it dawned on you the Dec 1st was around the corner!

Def. low key girl. During the sales (that we could not participate in), I ended up adding all my makeup wishlist to my “loves” in my sephora account. Just in case! Now I’m just hunting for a good face primer. Do you have any suggestions? I may buy one today with my little coupon.

I’m embarking on a 12 month no-buy as of 1st Jan 2016…I guess I’m lucky because I barely wear makeup as it is but boy, do I buy it! Which is even more of a reason NOT to buy it. Ahh I’m a silly human who loves shiny things 😀 Love your blog by the way – new subbie!

I definitely need to start investing in some skincare products! I just rely on drinking lots of water to do its magic – it does but I wish I had products which just all round lifted my skin and glow 🙂

You’re lucky if all you need is water to have nice skin!

Haha it seems to do the majority of the work. I think the next best thing to do is get enough sleep which fluctuates in my life haha.
