Fishtail Braid Manicure

Tools needed: None!

This manicure is, by far, my most time consuming yet satisfying manicure to accomplish. The Fishtail Braid mani consists literally of different colored layers, which makes the drying time about three times longer. Of course this depends on how thick you decide to make the overlapping layers. I used three different colors (Above: burnt orange, yellow and fuchsia polishes) and a lot of patience.
Because I’ve done this manicure years ago, I have recreated the nail art design on my pointer in a step-by-step tutorial. Just remember to wait to paint until each layer has dried completely. It’s easy:

1. Start with a base coat to protect your natural nail bed.
2. Paint the entire nail a metallic color.
3. Take a second polish and sweep the brush left to right diagonally, but a bit lower than where the metallic polish started, so the metallic polish still peeks out.
4. With a third polish, sweep the brush from the opposite direction, right to left diagonally.
5. Take your metallic color and sweep the brush left to right diagonally, again, letting all the colors peek out with each layer.
6. Repeat Steps 3-5 until the entire nail bed forms the illusion of a fishtail braid.

7. Once the manicure is done, seal the nail art design with a quick drying top coat. This will make the nail look shiny and the design last longer.
It’s a comfort to know that even though I can’t do a fishtail braid hairstyle, at least I can do the mani version instead!
